Dr Mei Cheah is a skilled female specialist Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon based in Melbourne, Victoria. Dr Mei was born overseas and moved to Melbourne to complete her schooling. She is multilingual and speaks English, Malay, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Dr Mei graduated in Medicine from The University of Melbourne. She has worked in many areas of medicine and surgery, including Neonatal Intensive Care at Monash NICU before commencing her specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in Victoria. This experience complements her skillset in supporting and counselling pregnancy complications, having had first hand experience in one of the busiest tertiary centres in Victoria. During the course of her training, she has worked in many areas of O&G across Eastern Health, Peninsula Health and Monash Health.
After completion of her core specialist training, Dr Mei underwent advanced training in the areas of Reproductive Medicine, Fertility and Laparoscopic Surgery in South Australia before obtaining her fellowship. Dr Mei is a fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) and is a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society (AGES).
She currently holds a Senior Medical Staff appointment at Monash Health. Being a training supervisor, Dr Mei is actively involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors and specialists in training. She is also a senior clinician in the Menstrual Management Clinic. Dr Mei is one of the few clinicians credentialed to perform advanced gynaecological laparoscopic procedures as well as complicated obstetrics procedures including twins delivery and rotational forceps.
Dr Mei has a boutique private practice in Berwick and Mount Waverley. She is happy to accept new referrals and is able to see you promptly, especially for urgent conditions. She is an advocate of actively listening to her patients, respecting their wishes and presenting an evidence based care plan in a collaborative way. Her warm and friendly nature will make you comfortable, especially during trying and vulnerable times.
She delivers at St John of God Berwick Hospital and Waverley Private Hospital. She can continue to look after you should your pregnancy become high risk and require a transfer to Jessie McPherson Private Hospital. For gynaecological procedures, Dr Mei operates at St John of God Berwick Hospital and Waverley Private Hospital.
